At our house, my granddaughter and I love to experiment with all types of interesting and fascinating things!
Something we tried over a week ago, was to germinate some apple seeds from the apple we ate for a snack. Although we had over 12 seeds, only one germinated. We waited until the spout seemed strong enough to put in some soil.
We were quite surprised at how quickly the sprout formed roots and tiny leaves.
We decided it was time to plant this little seedling in order for it to grow strong. Amazingly, within a couple of hours, the seedling reached up to the sunlight and straightened itself up (within a couple of hours only). Wow! We were amazed, anyway.
We can’t wait to plant this little beauty outside this summer. I’ll make sure to protect it within a wall of sticks or something. The reason I say this, is that the lawn mower accidentally chopped away a beautiful crab apple tree I was trying to grow, a few years back. Lesson learned: clearly identify the seedling area.
I will keep you posted as to the progress of our little seedling.
*Factoid: There are over 7500 varieties of apples worldwide.
This reminds me, I can’t remember what variety of apple we used for this seedling… Oh well… it’ll be a surprise.
Thanks for dropping by!
